Weekly/Daily Legislative Report
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Charlie Roberts
2/08/10
Now that Legislative Committees are now in place and Chairpersons have been named, the pace of activity is back to a normal level. There are some new members on both the Senate and House Retirement Committees and I hope to print a complete list next week. Both committees did meet this week but only the House Committee had a TRS related bill:
* HB 969 is a compliance bill that assures TRS and the IRS are in unison. GREA had no objection to this legislation.
There were six other bills for the committee but they were for Fire Fighter Retirement or Police Officer Retirement. Chairman Howard also stated that TRS would not be included in any of the changes being made in other Retirement Systems this year. All of the bills presented were given Do Pass to the Rules Committee.
Again this year the economy and Budget will slow down the Legislative Session. Starting next week the General Assembly will only meet four days week and slow to three until mid March. I will post a weekly schedule so that those planning a Capitol visit wont get caught on an off day.
Stay tuned, it is going to be another long session.
